When I was preparing for the Paralympic Games in London my right hip started bothering my and becoming more and more painful. After a few months I was in so much pain that I could barely sleep at night. Then I finally decided to have it looked at.
The x-ray showed that my hip was worn out and had been dislocated. No kidding why I was in so much pain!
The solution to this was to have hip replacement surgery. After having that surgery I pretty quickly realized that my movement had been very restricted and that I couldn’t lean forward anymore. I couldn’t get into the exact position that I was sitting in my racing wheelchair.
This was devastating to me.
What was I now supposed to do? Should I give up my big dream in life?
